Today the first graders listened to a read-aloud of Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. As they listened to this familiar story, they focused on identifying the main character's feelings as they changed throughout the book, as well as noticing why her feelings changed. Understanding characters and how characters change is an important reading comprehension skill that the children will be building this year. Discussing this book also gave us the opportunity to connect to our social studies unit about social skills.
